Erlan Idrisov

Jerlan Äbilfajysuly Ydyryssow ( Kazakh Ерлан Әбілфайызұлы Ыдырысов / Jerlan Äbilfajysuly Ydyryssow, Russian Ерлан Абильфаизович Идрисов / Jerlan Abilfaisowitsch Idrissow; born April 28, 1959 in Qarqaraly, Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician and diplomat, and Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2012. Previously he was Ambassador to the United States and Brazil, and from 1999 to 2002 been Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Biography

Jerlan Ydyryssow was born on 28 April 1959 in Qarqaraly area Karaganda in Kazakhstan. From 1976 to 1981 he studied at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations Economic Relations and the languages ​​of Urdu and English. Since 1985 he was employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic and Head of the Press and Information Office of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1991, he was a staff member of the Embassy of the Soviet Union in India. He was first secretary and head of department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in 1992. He then became the first Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations. 1995 to 1996 he was employed by the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the following two years he was a consultant to the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in international affairs.

He was appointed in 1999 to Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This post he held until 2002, before he was Deputy Foreign Minister again. On 14 June 2002, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan in the UK. On 2 December 2002 he was also appointed as the ambassador of Kazakhstan in Sweden, Norway and Ireland. He held until 2007, these offices.

From 4 July 2007, he was Ambassador of Kazakhstan in the United States and since September 11, 2007, Ambassador to Brazil.

Since 28 September 2012, he is the new Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov under Prime Minister, after the former Prime Minister Karim Mässimow voluntarily resigned from his post.

Ydyryssow is married to Nurilla Anarbekqysy Ydyryssowa and has two sons and a daughter.
