Erland Samuel Bring

Erland Samuel Bring ( born August 19, 1736, in Ausås, Ängelholm Municipality, † May 20 1798 in Lund ) was a Swedish mathematician.

Bring studied from 1750 to 1757 at the University of Lund Law. Later he taught history, but his main interest was mathematics. In 1790 he became rector of the university.

His 1786 published in Lund main work Meletemata quaedam mathematematica about transformationem aequationum algebraicarum describes his research on the solution of equations. Named after delivery is the Jerrad bring- normal form of an equation of the fifth degree. Thus can a quintic equation by a polynomial transformation to an equation of the form

Reduce where other than this simplified equation only equations to be solved up to the fourth degree.
