Erlend Loe

Erlend Loe ( born May 24, 1969 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian writer.

Life and work

After his civil service in a theater group, Loe studied Literature, Film Studies and Ethnology in Oslo. Later he also visited the Danish Film School in Copenhagen and the Art Academy in Trondheim. Today he works as an author, screenwriter and translator in Oslo.

His first publication was the novel Tatt av Kvinnen in 1993. Loe describes an unequal love affair. Due to the sudden withdrawal of a woman protagonist's life is even more cluttered. Although his disordered life now gets more and more structure, but his satisfaction seems not to lift the long term. In 1994 the first book of his quite socially critical children's book series about Kurt the forklift driver. With the publication of his second novel ( Naiv. Super. ) Loe became known in Norway. A young man in a life crisis gets the order to the apartment of his brother were traveling to watch. There he gets gradually by simple employment (eg, the contact with the neighbor boy, children's toys, cycling) his life under control. The partially stupid activities allow him to reflect on his life.

Erlend Loe chooses for his novels often protagonists who are already overwhelmed by the everyday. Thus, the problems to be solved in the novel for the reader often seem simplistic, even ridiculous. Underlined by direct language and appropriate word choice creates a very unique comedy. At the same time raises Loe but essential questions about the people on whose answer appears clear at first glance but turn out to be more difficult when more accurate reflection.

2010 received his novel Doppler, read by Andreas Fröhlich ( Best Artist; production Lauscherlounge / Berlin) the German Audio Book Prize.
