Erling Blöndal Bengtsson

Biography

Early age of 16 he became a student of Gregor Piatigorsky in Philadelphia, which made him in 1949 as his assistant at the Curtis Institute of Music. From 1950 to 1953 he taught with his own cello class at that institution before 1953 Professor at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory in Copenhagen followed, where he also worked as a high school teacher later. In 1980 he became a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. In 1990 he returned to America and taught until 2006 at the " School of Music " at the University of Michigan. Bengtsson concerted with appearances as soloist and made ​​appearances worldwide mainly in Europe, Asia and North America. He was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and was awarded in 1993 with the title " Chevalier du cellos " Indiana University. Much of his numerous LP and CD recordings was released on the Danish label DANACORD. In November 2006, the DVD "The Cello and I", which is a comprehensive portrait of this Scandinavian cellist from 1936 to 2006 appeared in DANACORD.
