Ernest Bucalossi

Procida Bucalossi (* 1832, † 1918) was an English composer.

Bucalossi became known as a composer of light music easier. He worked until 1881 as conductor at the Prince of Wales Theatre. For the music publisher Chappell & Co., he wrote numerous dance arrangements by operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan.

With Gaston Serpette, Edward Solomon and George Jacobi 1880 he composed the operetta Rothomago. 1882 listed his hugely successful operetta Les manteaux Noirs. The Richard D' Oyly Carte Theaterimpresario she valued so highly that he secured the performing rights for the British colonies and the United States the following year.

Bucalossi was the father of Ernest Bucalossi ( Procida Ernest Luigi Bucalossi, pseudonym Ernest Elton, 1863-1933 ), composer of the popular character piece The Grasshopper 's Dance.
