Ernest F. Acheson

Ernest Francis Acheson ( born September 19, 1855 in Washington, Pennsylvania, † May 16, 1917 ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1909 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ernest Acheson attended the common schools and the Washington & Jefferson College, which he completed in 1875. After a subsequent law studies and his 1877 was admitted to a lawyer, he worked until 1879 in this profession. He was then engaged in the newspaper business. He acquired the Washington Observer Weekly, which he himself edited. In 1889, he made this week's newspaper a daily newspaper. In January 1893 he became president of the Publishers Association of Pennsylvania Editorial Association and in June of the same year he became secretary of the relevant National Association. From 1894 to 1917 he was curator of the Washington & Jefferson College.

Politically, Acheson joined the Republican Party. In the years 1884 and 1896, he participated as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions relevant. In the congressional elections of 1894 he was in the 24th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats William Allen Sipe on March 4, 1895. After six re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1909 seven legislative sessions. In this time of the Spanish-American War was from 1898.

In 1908, Acheson was not nominated by his party for re-election. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he worked in the newspaper business continues. In 1912, he withdrew into retirement. He died on 16 May 1917 in his hometown of Washington, where he was also buried.
