Ernie Maresca

Ernest " Ernie " Maresca ( * April 21, 1938 in Bronx, New York) is an American songwriter, rock and roll singer and manager of a record company. He became known primarily through the top hits, which he wrote in the early 1960s for the singer Dion DiMucci and its formation Dion and the Belmonts.

Biography

Maresca began his career as a singer and songwriter in the doo-wop group The Regents. He had the song " No-One Knows" written, became aware of the Dion DiMucci. Dion took it with his band The Belmonts. The single release on Laurie Records in 1958 a top 20 hit in the U.S. charts.

Maresca began to devote himself entirely to writing songs, and supplied Dion with his big hits " Runaround Sue " (1961, ranking first in the USA, # 11 in the UK) and " The Wanderer" ( 2/USA place, 10th place / UK, a re-release in 1976 rose again to number 16). More hits for Dion, written by Maresca together with DiMucci, were "Lovers Who Wander " and " Donna the Prima Donna".

1961 offered him Seville, a small New York label, a contract as a singer. Despite his protests, he was not a great singer, recordings were released. The single " Shout Shout ( Knock Yourself Out )" was 1962, a U.S. Top Ten hit. Other less successful recordings followed in the 1960s. He also wrote songs for other artists continue, including the hit " Whenever a Teenager Cries " by Reparata & the Delrons.

In the 1970s, he was director of public relations at Laurie Records and was later an executive of the record company.
