Ernst Heinrich Georg Ule

Ernst Heinrich Georg Ule ( born March 12, 1854 in Halle an der Saale, † July 15, 1915 in Berlin) was a German botanist and explorer. He was the brother of geographer Wilhelm Ule. His botanical author abbreviation is " Ule ".

Ule, son of the author of popular science literature Otto Eduard Vincent Ule (1820-1876), in his early years was master gardener in Halle and Berlin. In 1883 he traveled to a recovering from mental illness to Brazil and participated intensively there on the scientific study of plants in the country. After eight years in Santa Catarina, he was appointed in 1891 to the Natura Lista Viajante the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro. From 1895 to 1900 he was deputy director there, and made ​​trips to the North of Brazil, as well as to Guyana, Venezuela and Peru. In 1912 he moved back to Berlin.

He wrote valuable publications on Brazil plant geography and other biological themes that were often provided with photographic series. In addition, he examined the economics of the region and for example wrote treatises on rubber production in South America.
