Ernst Maria Lieber

Philipp Ernst Maria Lieber ( born November 16, 1838 in Camberg, † March 31, 1902 ibid ) was a center politician and member of the Reichstag.

Life

Dear Ernst was the son of the lawyer, politician and tea merchant Moritz Joseph Josiah dear. The church painter Philipp Veit, Limburg Bishop Peter Josef Blum and the politically influential Bishop of Mainz, Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler were friends of his parents. The High School earned Ernst Lieber in Hadamar. He studied law from 1858 in Würzburg, Munich and Bonn. Dear finally received his doctorate in Heidelberg. After the death of his father in 1863 he interrupted work on his habilitation and supported the mother in the education of the youngest siblings and parents Teehandelshaus. In Camberg he founded a trade association and a Catholic social club. Dear Ernst married on 24 September 1873, the 15 years younger Josefine Arnold ( 1853-1932 ). From the marriage twelve children were born.

Work

Ernst Lieber was active in building church associations and soon became one of the leading representatives of the lay Catholic Diocese of Limburg.

At the instigation of Bishop Blum held dear in 1869 his first speech at a Catholic. Later he became one of the founders of the "Center ( Constitution Party), " the party chairman in 1891 after the death of Ludwig Windthorst. He was in 1870 elected to the Prussian House of Representatives and in March 1871 in the first Reichstag. Both mandates he held until his death. During the Kulturkampf, he distinguished himself as an eloquent opponent of Bismarck, particularly in the debates on the legal day of rest, the restriction of women and child labor and the general working time limits. Following the partial withdrawal of the Kulturkampf laws, the party struck a decidedly under his leadership a national course. So dear supported in particular the naval bills, which he Kaiser Wilhelm II supported the great power politics.

Dear was politically active in his native city Camberg. He was a member of the city council and was at times City Council President. He also belonged to the district council and county committee, and also the local parliament of the district of Wiesbaden, and the County Council of the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau in Kassel. In Camberg Ernst Lieber left in 1889 to build the Lieber'schen tower on old foundations, in the tower room, he received visitors.

1885 Lieber was elected president of the Catholic Congress in Münster.

Awards

Pope Leo XIII. awarded him the Großkomturkreuz of St. George's Order, and appointed him to the Privy Chamberlain.
