Ernst Remak

Ernst Remak ( born May 26, 1849 in Berlin, † May 24, 1911 in Berlin) was a German neurologist and professor of Jewish descent.

Life

His father Robert Remak was a famous neurologist, physiologist and embryologist. His son was the mathematician Robert Remak.

After graduating from the Mary Magdalene school his hometown of Remak studied from 1867 at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelm University in Breslau. He was active in the Corps Borussia Wroclaw. As Inactive he moved to the Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of Berlin, and later at the Julius -Maximilians -Universität Würzburg, the Kaiser- Wilhelms- University of Strasbourg and the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg. 1870-71 he served in the Franco-German War. He then worked at the Charité in Berlin. In 1877 he became a Privatdozent, 1893 Professor. He died shortly before his 62nd birthday.
