Ernst von Delius

Ernst Ludwig Ferdinand von Delius ( born March 29, 1912 in Plessa; † July 26, 1937 in Bonn ) was a German racing driver "Auto Union ".

Life

From Delius came from a Ravensberg family and was the second of three sons of mine, owner - director and Dr. Ing hc Frederick Delius (1881-1967) and Catherine Louise ( Isa ) Schwenke ( 1885-1969 ). He was a great-grandson of Daniel Henry Delius.

He ran his first race in August 1931 on the AVUS in Berlin as a private driver in a competition of sports cars, in which he learned as a huge freshman sixth place. In the following years, he scored a number of successes in small and larger competitions that time, and established his reputation as a great hope of motorsport.

On the advice of Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche took him 1935 Auto Union as a young rider on. As a team - mate of Bernd Rosemeyer and Hans Stuck was Delius soon among the best drivers in the world. He won the 1937 Grand Prix of Cape Town.

A collision with Richard Seaman at the Grand Prix of Germany 1937 on the Nürburgring prepared the promising career on July 25, 1937 to an abrupt end. While Seaman escaped with minor injuries, Ernst von Delius died on 26 July 1937 in Bonn from his injuries. To commemorate the merits of the family of the Von- Delius Delius Street was named after her in Plessa. In addition, in July 2002 a memorial stone for Ernst von Delius was inaugurated in place.
