Ernzen, Germany

Ernzen is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Irrel.

Geography

The municipality is located on the south side of the Ferschweiler plateau, a plateau of sandstone. To Ernzen includes the residential places Ernzerhof, Haus Hubertus and When Ernzerhof.

History

The first written mention as " Arenza " was 895 in a deed, in the Lorraine King Zwentibold the Abbey of Echternach possession of the place confirmed. Later documents speak of Erneza, Herense, Errensem and Ernszem. The shape Erneza first appears in 1148 in a papal document.
