Gilzem

Gilzem in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Irrel.

Geography

Gilzem located in the South Eifel region, approximately 12 km south of Bitburg and 17 km north of Trier. The municipality also includes the residential places Kleebornerhof and wine Felderhof.

History

Gilzem was first mentioned in 1212 in a document of Trier Archbishop Johann I, under the name " Gelime ", in which he bequeathed the pen to Pfalzel income from Gilzem. In later documents the place is also called " Gelisheim " and " Geilsheim ".

Until November 7, 1970 Gilzem belonged to the district of Trier -Saar castle and was incorporated into the district Bitburg -Prüm with the same date, newly formed.
