Erol is a common Turkish first and last name ( family name were introduced in Turkey in 1935 under Ataturk ). Erol probably represents a short form of the two words " he oglu " represents and means " hero." Literally considered can "he" mean man, courageous man, capable man or soldier. In the Turkish military, he is still the lowest military rank today. " Oglu ", however, means son.
