Erpeldange

Drake things ( Luxembourgish Ierpeldeng, French Erpeldange ) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the canton Diekirch. Together with the communities Bettendorf, Colmar-Berg, Diekirch, Ettelbruck and Schieren Erpeldange forms the core of the Nordstad. This region is adjacent to the cities of Luxembourg and Esch -sur-Alzette, the third development pole of the Grand Duchy.

Geographical location

The municipality is located in northeastern Erpeldange Luxembourg and lies on the banks of the Sauer. Together with its neighboring communities Erpeldange forms the border with the Luxembourg Ardennes ( the Ösling ).

History

The area around Erpeldange was inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. How many villages whose name ends with " -ingen " ends, Erpeldange ( Erpeld -ingen ) was founded between the 6th and 9th centuries, when Franks settled in the area.

Erpeldange immersed in written form for the first time in an act of 1247, in which the knight Frédéric Gérard and are called by Erpeldange. In the 12th century the castle was built as a moated castle. After several changes of owners it was in 1983 bought by the Luxembourg government. Today in the building, the Municipality of Erpeldange is housed.

The community Erpeldange

After the French Revolution, when Luxembourg became part of the French Département Forêts, created a new civil organization. Among other things, 1795, the municipalities were introduced and incorporated Erpeldange in the section of the community Diekirch. 1823 the municipal boundaries were revised and Erpeldange was together with Ingeldorf part of the community Ettelbrück.

At the request of the population and by a law of 22 January 1850 Erpeldange an independent municipality, consisting of the towns Erpeldange and Ingeldorf. Burden was recorded in 1906 as a third village in the municipality.
