These are the possessions of a certain Nebelungus:

From this it probably also stems the name of Esch. With construction of the castle " Asko " ( 927 ) was Esch- Sauer since the early Middle Ages a walled central location with municipal law and an associated county in Ardennergau.

Until the beginning of World War II Esch- Sauer belonged to the district of Diekirch in the former Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. On 10 May 1940, at the beginning of the German western campaign, but it was occupied along with the entire district by the Wehrmacht and was from then on German military administration. As of December 1, 1940 Esch- sur -Sure was incorporated into the newly created district of Diekirch. In September 1944, U.S. troops have finished the German occupation.
