Eschenau

Eschenau is a municipality with 1357 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Lilienfeld in Lower Austria.

Geography

Eschenau is located in the Most district in Lower Austria, in a tributary of the Traisen about 20 km south of St. Pölten. The area of ​​the municipality, a church and scattered settlement comprises 24.71 square kilometers. 49.68 percent of the area is forested. The highest mountain is 946 m of Lindenberg, followed by Lorenzipechkogel with 883 m. A popular destination is the Kaiserkogel with the Kaiserkogel hut at 716 m above sea level.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place informed the eventful history of Austria. 1230 the site was documented as a " Eschenowe " from the Abbey of Lilienfeld. The parish has incorporated the Lilienfeld. Since 1786 Eschenau is an independent parish.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1162 inhabitants. In 1991, the municipality had 1016 inhabitants, 1024 and 1981 in 1971, 1020 inhabitants.

The council has 19 seats, mayor of the municipality is Alois Kaiser.

In the municipal elections of 2011, the ÖVP reached 12, the SPÖ 6 and the list ABOUT a mandate. After the local elections in 2010, when the ON is no longer took, ÖVP and FPÖ each won a mandate while the SPÖ lost one.
