Espen Rian

Espen Rian ( born February 10, 1981 in Trondheim ) is a former Norwegian Nordic skier.

Career

Espen Rian began in 1987 with the skiing at Stadsbygd IL. At the national level, he debuted in 2000, a year later internationally in B- World Cup Nordic Combined. His first appearance in A World Cup he had in Upper Wiesenthal, where he was 22 in the Sprint on December 29, 2001. The 2001/02 season he finished at the 43rd place overall. After failing to successfully launch in 2002/03 season, he joined in January 2003, again in the B World Cup. After some good results, including several top -20 finishes in the Summer Grand Prix, he started from the 2003/04 season again in the World Cup. Best position was with the team a fifth place in Oberstdorf on 14 February 2004.

After he took the 2005/06 season again in B- World Cup, he succeeded in 2006, the international break. So he reached in November and December in Kuusamo and Lillehammer Top 10 rankings and in January in Lago di Tesero finally with the team its first podium. Subsequently nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, Japan, he also reached there with the team in third place and thus won the bronze medal. In the World Cup he could achieve good results and finished so after the season 2006/ 07 on the 14th place in the overall World Cup standings. It was his most successful season in which he was not able to return.

At 29, he was awarded by the Association once again nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. However, after a 19th place after the jumping, he could only reach the 35th place in the individual competition after a rather poor mileage at the end. Together with Jan Schmid, Petter Tande and Magnus Moan, he reached in the team competition after the seventh place in jumping at the end for good mileage fifth overall. After the Games, he took over the Continental back in the World Cup, reached there but usually only mediocre rankings. The best finish was an eleventh place at the World Cup in Lillehammer.

After the 2010/11 season he ended his active career.
