Jan Schmid
January Schmid ( * November 24, 1983 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian- Swiss Nordic combined.
Career
January Schmid holds Norwegian citizenship, but his parents were Swiss. His younger brother Tommy Schmid is also a Nordic Combined, which, however, competes for Switzerland. Schmid is a member of the Norwegian Association Sjetne IL, he is a member of the training team Granaasen ski team. By 2006, he went to the Swiss club TV Under rhinestones. Schmid lives in Trondheim in the Tiller area and studied at the University of Trondheim. At the age of 16 years belonged to the national squad Schmid of Switzerland.
His international debut for Switzerland Schmid early December 2001 in Vuokatti in B- World Cup, where in a Gundersen competition he was 24. His second race was a mass start in which he finished second. Several top ten results followed. Gentle same month he was promoted to the A- Cup and made his debut here as 32 in a sprint in Upper Wiesenthal. In early January 2002, he won first World Cup points in 18th of Gundersen competition in Schonach. He then won in Baiersbronn a B- World Cup mass start, a little later a sprint. However Outstanding results have not yet followed thereafter. At the Junior World Cup 2002 in Schonach Schmid missed fourth barely a medal. A year later he was in Sollefteå seventh in Gundersen competition and tenth in the pursuit. Subsequently, he was first nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme and used in two races. In Gundersen Schmid was there 27, 30 in the sprint in November was the Swiss who had always descend again into the B World Cup, first run in tenth place in a single among the top ten.
Beginning of January 2004 Schmid was in Reit im Winkl sixth in a sprint. In the end, he was the 18th overall World Cup standings, his best result to date in this classification. The next highlight was the Winter Universiade in 2005 in Seefeld, where Schmid behind Bernhard Gruber and Sergei Maslennikov won bronze. The ski jumping he came to the tenth place when jumping from the large hill. No noteworthy were the results of the 2005 World Cup in Oberstdorf. At the Olympic Winter spat in Turin in 2006 Schmid was used by the Swiss season and reached together with Ronny Heer, Andreas Hurschler and Ivan Rieder fourth. After the performance development of the young Swiss stagnated and a sixth rank in Harrachov in January 2006 in a sprint after a long time, the best result was, Schmid decided in the Norwegian national team to change.
The change Schmid did not go without a hitch, the Swiss Association called for a fee that could not pay the Norwegian Association. Ultimately Schmid brought the money to with the help of Norwegian sponsors themselves. He did not get a potential barrier of the Fédération Internationale de Ski because of the change, however. So Schmid could now go to the start from the 2006 /07 for Norway and was 14th in this debut in November at Gundersen competition in Kuusamo. On average, the results were better now, although still not outstanding. Frequently he made it into the top 20, now and then he came in the top ten. For the first time on the podium managed Schmid as the third in Gundersen competition in December 2008 in Ramsau am Dachstein.
So far, Schmid came in 69 World Cup races on ranks in the World Cup points. Eight times he ran in the top ten. Three times he won races in B- World Cup and there came four more times on a podium.
