Espostoa guentheri

Espostoa guentheri is a species in the genus Espostoa from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors Ernesto Günther from Valparaíso, supported the German geographer and botanist Carl Troll in whose researches in Bolivia financially.

Description

Espostoa guentheri growing bushy from the base with branched stems and reaches stature heights of up to 2 meters. The upright, bright green shoots have a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. There are about 27 weak gehöckerte ribs present on which are yellowish white bewollte areoles that are 1 inch away from each other. The approximately 15 dark yellow spines are 0.5 to 2.2 inches long. The cephalium is up to 50 centimeters long and consists of reddish -brown to gray wool and numerous spines with a length of 4 to 6 centimeters.

The bell-shaped to tubular, yellowish white flowers are 8 inches long and have diameter of 2.5 to 3 centimeters on. Your Perikarpell and the corolla tube are occupied with fine, light pink wool. The fruits are scaly.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Espostoa guentheri is common in Bolivia in the departments of Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz at altitudes of about 800 to 1400 meters.

The first description as Cephalocereus guentheri followed in 1931 by Walter Kupper. Urs Eggli put the type in 2005 in the genus Espostoa. A synonym is Vatricania guentheri ( Kupper ) Backeb. ( 1951).

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", ie out to be low risk.
