The Estadio Benito Villamarín (up to October 2010: Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera ) is a football stadium in Seville, Spain. The plant is owned and home to the Spanish club Real Betis, who plays in La Liga in the 2010/11 season División. The stadium was built in 1929 and today has a capacity of 51 309 spectators. The number of places is made up of 49 962 normal seats and 1,347 VIP and business seats. For the journalists 34 spaces are available in the press box. The floodlights makes 2,500 lux

History

The first venue of Betis was the El Campo de las Tablas Verdes and in 1920 the club in the Campo del Real Patronato Obrero was established. Since March 17, 1929 Real Betis plays at this stadium. Over the years there have been several modifications of the stadium. In 1958, stands were erected behind the goals, which were replaced by new buildings 1971-1973. As of 1979, the renovation and expansion started for the football World Cup in 1982. The last major work to date took place in 2000 instead of the new direction of the North and the East Stand. Today, the stadium is composed of three parts. For one of the three-story grandstand in the west; which is the only part of the sports facility on a roof. Behind the gate in the south there is a one-story patio rank. The interconnected ranks of the North and the Ostbereiches are also three stories; they project in their steep construction but still the main grandstand.

In October 2010, we voted on the future name of the stadium. The proposal Estadio Benito Villamarín received the majority with 6,107 votes. He was followed by the name Estadio Heliopolis with 2,786 votes and Estadio Ciudad del Betis with 655 votes. Only 160 votes were cast on the previous name. Thus, the stadium gets named after its former president Benito Villamarín Prieto (1955-1965) back.
