The Estadio Las Gauna ( officially Estadio Municipal Las Guanas ) is a football stadium in the city of Logroño, capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja. The € 13 million dollar stadium is owned by the city of Logroño. The crew of the UD Logroñés receives in the system their opponents to the home games.

History

Campo de fútbol de Las Guanas

After the founding of CD Logroño 1922, the club played at the Campo de La Trilladora. On 15 June 1924, the Campo de fútbol de Las Gauna was opened against the French team Vie au Grand Air du Médoc (3-0) with the game CD Logroño. The first goal came Ramón Castroviejo; who later became famous as a doctor of ophthalmology. Besides football, could be operated on the system, even swimming, tennis, basketball and athletics. The property was built on the venue; was near a finca and belonged to the sisters Gaona. It was provided by them for construction. From the Terrenos de Las Gaonas ( German Land of Gaonas ) was Terrenos de Las Gauna ( German Land of Guanas ). So the name of the stadium developed. 1957 was built in the south to stand behind the grandstand. On September 18, 1962, the city of Logroño took over the stadium. In the match against FC Elche on August 30, 1969 was consecrated the new floodlights. Between 1987 and 1988 the two and Located behind the main stand and the changing rooms were renewed. Estadio Municipal Las Guanas

In 1997, construction began only a few hundred meters from the old stadium. The building, designed by Antonio Lamela Stadium was built by the Spanish construction company Grupo ACS. For various reasons and lack of funds, the construction lasted until the year 2002. Stadion provides on its four closed to the corners, stands 16,000 covered seats for visitors. The floodlight system is almost completely installed on the roof edge of the stadium. The opening was celebrated on 28 February 2002 before 16,000 visitors with the friendly CD Logroñés against the then first division side Deportivo Alavés (2:1). Four days later, was the first league match of the Segunda División B in the new venue for Logroñés to. The game against Real Zaragoza B ended with a 0-1 for the visitors.

Adjacent to the stadium is the multi-purpose sports hall Palacio de los Deportes de La Rioja. The construction was finished in 2003 with 4,500 seats is used by the handball club CB Ciudad de Logroño, and the basketball club CB Clavijo.

Internationals

Previously an international match of the Spanish national football team of men took place in Las Gauna. For September 2011, the Spanish Football Federation RFEF awarded a European Championship qualifier in the stadium of Logrono. With a commanding 6-0 win against Liechtenstein is the defending champion qualified for the EURO in 2012.
