The Estádio Municipal de Aveiro ( German Municipal Stadium in Aveiro) is a football stadium in the Portuguese city of Aveiro and was built in the newly created park on the outskirts of the city. It was one of the ten stages of the UEFA European Football Championship in 2004 and was specially built for it.

History

The construction of the football stadium began in June 2001. Designed by architect Tomás Taveira sports facility offers 30 127 seats and was officially opened on 15 November 2003. At the opening of the 62 million -euro stadium the friendly match between Portugal and Greece was held, which ended in a 1-1. The special feature of the stadium is its color colorful design. This extends from the facade over the interior and the roof to the colored distributed plastic seats in the stands.

The total area of the stadium site is 32 acres. The spectator stands are fully covered with a 2,250 -ton roof, but toward the rear open. The structure is supported by twenty steel masts. In several areas of the stadium are a total of 900 VIP and box seats ready. Around the stadium are parking spaces for more than 3,000 cars and 70 buses. Inside, there are two display panels, each with 34 square feet of space. For the security in and around the stadium 140 surveillance cameras have been installed. Inside the stadium, there are 32 stalls available to the visitors.

In 2006, there were four games of the U -21 Football Championship held in Aveiro. Since 2009, the stadium is the venue of the match for the Portuguese Supercup football.

Nevertheless, up to the games of SC Beira Mar, just a few events at the stadium will take place. The parts of the SC Beira Mar, mostly visited up to the games against Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto only a few thousand spectators. The poor utilization of the high operating costs can not be refinanced and loads on the town. It was asked, which Estádio Municipal de Aveiro demolish and replace it with a smaller and cheaper Stadium. Concrete plans do not exist but.
