Esteghlal Ahvaz is an Iranian football club based in Ahvaz.

History

Esteghlal Ahvaz was founded in 1948 as an offshoot of Taj Tehran. The founding name was therefore Taj Ahvaz. Taj Ahvaz could not ascend to the top Iranian league, because the regulations two clubs with the same name not allowed.

Only after the Iran -Iraq war, it was the club in the season 1991/1992 allows despite names overlap in the highest Iranian league, time to play the Azadegan League. In the 1996/1997 season the club got off and only in the season 2001/2002 reached the summit in the IPL.

The club has not won national / international titles.

In the past season 2007/2008 Esteghlal Ahvaz finally finished eighth in the standings.
