Esther Wanjiru

Esther Wanjiru Maina ( born March 27, 1977) is a Kenyan long-distance runner.

Career

In 1998 she took at the Commonwealth Games gold in the 10,000 -meter run. In 1999 she was the half marathon from Tokyo Second in the world record run of Elana Meyer and is still the third fastest woman with 1:06:49 worldwide over this distance.

In a marathon, the 2000 Olympics, she finished fourth behind Naoko Takahashi (JPN ), Lidia Simon (ROM) and Joyce Chepchumba (KEN ).

She was third at the Osaka Women's Marathon, also in 2000 in her personal best of 2:23:31 in 1999.
