Etivluk River

BW

He springs from the Nigtun Lake in the Hills Howard, a promontory of the Brooks Range, flows in a north- northeasterly direction and flows 21 km east of Ipnavik River in the Colville River, which flows through the North Slope to the Arctic Ocean. The Etivluk River is one of the many rivers and streams that feed the Colville River from the Brooks Range north of the Continental Divide ago.

A bend in the river, about 24 km upstream of the confluence with the Colville River, is considered the most remote place in Alaska in relation to the nearest settlements: Ambler ( to the southwest ) and Atqasuk ( to the north ) are each less than 200 km away.

The river's name was first documented on 21 April 1886 by Howard Ensign of the United States Navy on an expedition from Fort Cosmos on the Kobuk River to Point Barrow.
