Eugène Bigot

Eugène Bigot ( born February 28, 1888 in Rennes, † July 17, 1965 in Paris) was a French composer, conductor and music teacher.

Life

Bigot was from 1895 to 1899 students at the Conservatory of Rennes. In 1905 he went to Paris, where he studied with Gabriel Fauré, André Gedalge, Paul Vidal and Xavier Leroux. From 1909 to 1911 he made ​​military service as a musician at the Ecole d'Artillerie of Versailles. He then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris. From 1914 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War. 1920 to 1923 he was director of the Ballets Suédois Orchestra, with which he toured all over Europe. From 1927 to 1964 he led the Philharmonic Orchestra of the French Radio Orchestra, from 1935 to 1950 the Concerts Lamoureux. He also worked from 1936 to 1947 at the Opéra -Comique and was from 1936 to 1947 professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. His most prominent student was Mikis Theodorakis.

Bigot composed chamber music and symphonic works, ballets and incidental music for plays and numerous instrumental pieces for the competitions at the Conservatoire.
