Eugenio Corecco

Eugenio Corecco (born 3 October 1931 in Airolo, † March 1, 1995 in Lugano ) was a Roman Catholic bishop in the diocese of Lugano in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland.

Life

On 2 October 1955, he was ordained a priest in Bodio. He studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Munich, where he was in 1962 his doctorate in canon law, and in Fribourg. In 1969 he was in Freiburg professor of canon law, and on 29 June 1986, he was consecrated by Henri Schwery bishop and appointed by the Pope as Bishop of Lugano.

On April 27, 1992, he founded the Istituto di Accademico Teologia of Lugano, which was raised to the Faculty of Theology by the Vatican on 20 November 1993.

He died after a long illness in his bedroom in the episcopal palace, and was buried in the crypt of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Lugano.
