Eulogio Martínez

Eulogio Martínez Ramiro ( born June 11, 1935 in Asunción, Paraguay, † September 30, 1984 in Barcelona ) was a Paraguayan - Spanish footballer. He graduated from 1959 to 1962 eight games for the Spanish national football team, where he scored six goals. With Spain, he participated in Chile at the FIFA World Cup 1962.

Career

In youth played Martínez, who was born in Paraguay Asunción, at Atlantida sports club in his hometown. There he attracted the attention of Club Libertad, one of the top clubs in Paraguay. For the club he played three years from 1953 to 1956 before he moved to FC Barcelona. In the Star team to Ladislao Kubala and Sandor sizes as Kocsis Martínez could be contrary to all expectations prevail and soon became a fixture in Barca's attack. When Barcelona won Martínez, who previously won the Paraguayan championship once, twice each, the Spanish Cup and the Copa del Rey. On September 24, 1957, he scored the first goal in the newly opened Camp Nou in Barcelona. The game against a Polish team won 4-2 Barca. During the Cup match against Atletico Madrid Martínez scored seven goals at 8:1.

In 1962, Martínez ( 4 goals) for Paraguay denied in 1954 and 1955, nine caps, participating in the World Cup in Chile. Spain was actually been one of the contenders for the title with the likes of Enrique Collar Luis del Sol, Alfredo Di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskás, but as so often in major tournaments the Iberians remained in 1962 below expectations and failed already in the group stage. Overall, Martínez could accrue eight times for Spain. In those eight games, he hit six times the opponents goal. He also completed a 1956 game for Catalonia. In the World Cup Martínez moved from Barcelona to Elche CF, where he was able to record 39 games (7 goals) in two years. In 1964 he then moved on to Atletico Madrid, but in a season where he came just two games and therefore further changed to CE Europe, from vonwo he then moved to Calella, where he ended his career.

After the career

After Martínez had ended his career in 1966, he lived a long time in Calella, a suburb of Barcelona. 1984 came to a serious car accident in which he was so severely wounded that he fell into a coma. After 23 days in a coma Eulogio Martínez died on 30 September 1984, only 49 years.
