Euphorbia sakarahaensis is a plant of the genus Euphorbia (Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae ( Euphorbiaceae ). This little-known, endangered species is endemic to the southwest of Madagascar.

Description

The succulent Euphorbia sakarahaensis grows as a dwarf shrub, reaching stature heights of 50 cm, thereby forming the branches of a plant diameter of 40 cm. Your much -branched main stem axis has a diameter of up to 5 cm and passes into a thickened taproot. The branches are divided into long and short shoots, with long shoots a diameter of 5 to 7 mm and end in the short shoots in the leaf axils. The thin spines are slightly curved and single standing. They are up to an inch long and have a gray color at the top, and a light brown at the base. The leaves of the long shoots are lance-shaped with a length of 2 to 2.5 cm and a width of about 2 mm and have a dark green top and a gray-green underside. The leaves of the short shoots are smaller.

The groups in each ligand located at the ends of branches inflorescences are small yellow-green to dark brown cyathia. The inflorescence stem has a length of 1 cm. Their triangular cyathophylls are straddling, 5 mm long and 3 mm wide at the base, with size and color may vary.

Dissemination

Euphorbia sakarahaensis is endemic in southwestern Madagascar. There you can find them in Sakaraha Forest in the Mahaboboka level. It grows as xerophyte in dry forests under trees.

This little-known species is only known from the Sakaraha area, but their exact total distribution area is still unknown. This area is influenced by anthropogenic fire and agriculture. This type is collected for the ornamental trade at the sites. The area is affected for charcoal production.

Euphorbia sakarahaensis as threatened ( Vulnerable ) in the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN. Some sites are located in protected areas. Euphorbia sakarahaensis is performed in Endangered Species Convention ( CITES) Appendix ( Appendix ) II: The trade is controlled worldwide.
