The European mountain newts ( Euproctus ) are a species-poor genus of salamanders, which is found on the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia in cool, rushing mountain streams and cold mountain lakes. The form rutting males, unlike the European newts ( Triturus cf ), no striking back combs. The females lay only a few, relatively large eggs individually, often under stones from. In higher altitudes the larvae overwinter in the water and complete their metamorphosis until next summer.
