Eupyrrhoglossum

Eupyrrhoglossum is a genus of butterflies of the family of moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The small butterflies are similar to those of the genus Aellopos. Your body is relatively large, the wings are dark brown, the front wings are spotted occasionally. The hind wings have a broad, gold-colored stripes. Unlike the genus Aellopos found in the animals on the abdomen no silver-colored stripes.

Occurrence and life

The genus occurs from the Caribbean to the south of Brazil. For a long time the genus from North America was unknown until two reproducing populations of Eupyrrhoglossum sagra in South Florida were discovered. The adults are diurnal and avid flower visitors.
