Europe Écologie

Europe Écologie (EE, Europe ecology) was a French alliance of parties that contested the European elections in France in 2009. It was founded on 20 October 2008 and consisted of the French green party Les Verts, the Association of Small regionalist parties Fédération régions et Peuples Solid Aires (and especially the Corsican PNC ) and other environmental activists and regionalists who are not members of the party. The name was based on a precursor list of Les Verts, had set out in the European elections in 1979.

Initiator of the group was the German - French MEP Daniel Cohn -Bendit, who belonged to the European Parliament for the legislative period 2004-2009 for the German Alliance 90/The Greens. In the European elections in 2009, he joined the other hand, in France. He managed several prominent independent candidates to win for the list, including the globalization critic José Bové, the environmental activists Yannick Jadot and anti-corruption activist Eva Joly.

Europe Écologie joined the European elections in 2009 as the French representative of the European Green Party. The Alliance reached a total of 16.28 % of the vote and 14 seats, eight of which one went to members of the Greens, the PNC and five to independent candidates. It was making it the third most voted list in France, almost on par with the Socialist Party ( 16.48 %).

While the party Les Verts was a member of the green party Europe EGP, the PNC was a member of the European Free Alliance, which includes regional parties. Both parties form the common European Greens / EFA, of all elected members of Europe Écologie joined in the European Parliament.

After the election was Europe Écologie further than electoral alliance and went to, among others, in the French regional elections in 2010, where she obtained 12.2 % of the votes, thus achieving the greatest benefits among all parties. Overall, the number of regional deputies increased from 159 to 263. However, EE failed with the goal in some regions to surpass the Parti Socialiste and to provide the regional prime minister.

After the regional elections in particular Daniel Cohn- Bendit urged a fusion of EE and Les Verts. This was completed on 13 November 2010. The new party is named Europe Écologie -Les Verts, party leader Cecile Duflot is, the former President of Les Verts.
