European Union National Institutes for Culture

The National Institutes for Culture in the European Union (short: EUNIC for English: European Union National Institutes for Culture ) is the union of the cultural institutions of the Member States of the European Union. The unification was completed on 21 February 2007 in Brussels.

EUNIC is a network that operates beyond national borders and with a degree of autonomy from the governments. The membership currently includes 27 organizations from 23 member countries of the European Union.

The purpose of EUNIC is to create a lasting partnership and network between the participating institutions to strengthen the improvement and promotion of cultural diversity and understanding between European societies and the international dialogue and cooperation with countries outside Europe.

EUNIC operates at two complementary levels. The first level consists of the Heads or Directors General of national institutions. The second level includes the cultural institutions in cities around the world that work together for joint projects. Since 1 July 2012, more than 80 clusters or national networks exist throughout the world.

EUNIC is passed through an annual meeting of heads of member organizations. Select from among its members a president, a first vice president and a second vice president. Everyone holds the position for a year on a rotating basis. The President will be supported by a team of three full-time employees.
