Eurville-Bienville

Eurville - Bienville is a commune with 2067 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Marne, in the Champagne -Ardenne region; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint- Dizier and (as populous municipality ) in the canton of Chevillon.

Geography

Eurville - Bienville is located about 8.5 kilometers southeast of Saint- Dizier. The district Eurville on the western bank of the Marne, Bienville on the eastern side of the river. On the western side runs the Route nationale 67, while to the east the railway line Blesme - Haussignémont -Chaumont runs with the Eurville station.

History

The place Bienville goes back to the 5th century. At an October 14 490-500 here, died 1379, canonized Menehould. 887 Eurville is mentioned (as Urtis villa). The Treaty of Verdun in 843 manifested the border between the two places: Eurville belonged to the West Frankish kingdom, Bienville to Lotharingen.

1972 merged the formerly independent communities.
