Eustache Le Sueur

Eustache Le Sueur or Lesueur [ østaʃ ləsɥœʀ ] (* November 19, 1616 in Paris, † April 30, 1655 ) was a French painter.

Le Sueur was a pupil of Simon Vouet and formed next by Italian paintings, who came to Paris. From 1645 to 1648 he painted the famous 22 pictures from the life of healing. Bruno Carthusian monastery in the small to Paris (now in the Louvre). 1649 was his preaching of the Apostle Paul in Ephesus Notre Dame for the church (now in the Louvre). He also carried out a large number of decorations, paintings and altarpieces for the churches of St. Etienne du Mont, Saint -Germain l' Auxerrois, St. Gervais and various private clients.

The Louvre has mentioned yet except the 13 religious and 13 mythological images, some of which come from the aforementioned churches, partly from the Cabinet de l' amour in the Hôtel Lambert. In the year 2009, at Christie's in Paris his painting Allégorie de la poésie in the format 130 times 97.5 inches for l, auctioned 15 million euros to the gallery Noortmann.

His works are characterized by purity and chastity of style, care of execution and soulful opinion by less energy.
