Net tensioner ( Eustroma reticulata )

The network tensioner ( Eustroma reticulata ) also called Weißgerippter Haarbusch tensioner or balsam network tensioner, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ). The name reticulata is derived from the Latin " reticulum " = net.

Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of about 20 to 25 millimeters. The front wings are colored black brown and white veins show. It results in an eye-catching grid pattern along with the white cross lines. The Apex is a white dividing line, which also opens into the white wave line. The Postdiskalregion and a narrow transverse band near the center are mostly gray brightened. The hind wings shimmer gray and are provided with two light transverse lines. In addition, a small center spot is visible. This is in the males orange colored, blackish in the females.

Caterpillar

Adults caterpillars have a greenish, yellowish or brownish color, a reddish, broken back line as well as off-white back side lines and well colored side stripes. The spiracles are blackish.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The distribution area of the network tensioner ranges from Southwest and Western Europe through the temperate zone to East Asia. In the north, the expansion into middle Fennoscandia enough, in the south, to Italy and the Balkans. It is preferable to make shady valleys, shore areas and marshy clearings in damp forests.

Way of life

The nocturnal moths fly during the months of June to September. Visit and artificial light sources. Food plant of the caterpillar is the Great Balsam ( Impatiens noli - tangere ), which is " not look at me stirring " also known by the name. They feed preferentially from the unripe fruit and live from August to September. The pupa overwinters.

Endangering

The net release comes in the German states in different number and is guided on the red list of endangered species on the early warning list.
