Eva Ibbotson

Eva Ibbotson ( born January 25, 1925 as Maria Charlotte Michelle Wiesner in Vienna, † 20 October, 2010 Newcastle upon Tyne, England) was a British writer.

Life

Eva Ibbotson was born in 1925 as a subsidiary of the physiologist Berthold P. Wiesner and the writer Anna Gmeyner in Vienna. After separation of the parents in 1928 ( from 1933 in exile, from 1934/35 in the UK) the mother lived ( eventually remarried with a Russian ) in Berlin, Vienna and Paris; Jewish origins father remained first in Vienna and then emigrated but his hand before 1933 to Edinburgh and London. The daughter grew first in Vienna in a church orphanage in 1933 and emigrated with her father to Scotland. There she attended Bedford College. Most recently, she lived in Newcastle.

She studied 1946/47, Physiology at the University of Cambridge. In 1965, she also earned a Masters in Education at the University of Durham, after she began a career as a teacher in the 1960s. She married her colleague Alan Ibbotson, with whom she had three sons and a daughter. Alan Ibbotson died in the 1990s. When her youngest son started school, Eva Ibbotson wrote her first children's book. First, however, she had begun with short stories for women's magazines, which could be carried out well in addition to the household.

In her book, The Secret of Platform 13, which appeared in 1994, they invented the secret platform in London's Kings Cross Station, the JK Rowling took up in her Harry Potter novels.
