Eva-Maria Westbroek
Eva -Maria Westbroek ( born April 26, 1970 in Belfast) is an internationally successful Dutch opera singer in the vocal range soprano.
Life and artistic work
Her father is the famous retired geology professor Peter Westbroek, who taught at the University of Leiden. She studied singing at the Conservatory in The Hague and furthered her education through master classes with the American tenor James McCray. Their debut was the soprano at the Aldeburgh Festival as Mère Marie in Francis Poulenc opera The discussions of the Carmelites. This was followed by guest appearances in Novi Sad, Skopje, Riga, Coburg and at the Teatro Manzoni in Rome and at the Komische Oper Berlin. At the latter stage, she sang, among others Elisabeth in Don Carlos and the CHRYSOTHEMIS in Elektra.
From 2001 to 2006, Eva -Maria Westbroek permanent member of the Staatsoper Stuttgart. There she sang Tosca in Tosca, the Carlotta in The Blight, Desdemona in Otello, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, the Marie in The Bartered Bride, the Guiliette in The Tales of Hoffmann, etc. caused a stir their performances as Charlotta at the Opera The Blight of Schreker. In August 2006, the artist was appointed chamber singer of the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
During her time in Stuttgart led guest performances by the soprano, among others at the opera houses of Paris, Amsterdam, London, Dresden and Salzburg. In 2008 she made her debut at Bayreuth as Sieglinde in Die Walküre and as Hanna in The Merry Widow Glawari in Milan. At the Munich State Opera, she sang in the spring of 2009, Jenufa in the eponymous opera by Leoš Janáček. At the Vienna State Opera since September 2010 she sings Leonora in Verdi's La forza del destino by Giuseppe Verdi. Since February 2011 she is starring as Anna Nicole Smith in the opera " Anna Nicole " by the British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage at London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, which was enthusiastically received by the critics.
The artist is married to the tenor Frank van Aken.
