Évariste Kimba

Évariste Kimba Mutombo (* July 16, 1926, † June 2, 1966 in Kinshasa) 1965 was briefly Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Political career

During the secession of Katanga after the independence of the Congo by Belgium in 1960, he was Secretary of State under Moise Tshombe.

After the independence of Katanga and Tshombe was a time in exile on July 10, 1964 Prime Minister of the Central Government. After Tshombe was released on October 13, 1965, President Joseph Kasavubu Kimba appointed as his successor. On October 18, 1965 Kimba presented his government. Parliament she leaned on November 14, 1965 from 134 to 121 votes, but the president nominated him again. Kimba was the last prime minister of the President Kasavubu, who was ten days later overthrown by Joseph -Désiré Mobutu. The latter ruled until 1997.

On Pentecost Sunday, May 29, 1966, Kimba was arrested along with the other ex- ministers Emmanuel Bamba, Jérôme Anany and Alexandre Mahamba on the orders of President Mobutu of military personnel. He was charged with conspiracy and preparing a coup, with alleged support from four foreign embassies (Belgium, France, USA and Germany ). In a 90 -minute show trial the leaders of the Pentecostal conspiracy by a special military court on 30 May 1966, sentenced to death by hanging. On 2 June 1966, he was publicly hanged along with the other convicts in Kinshasa over 100,000 onlookers.
