Évaux-les-Bains

Évaux -les- Bains is a commune with 1439 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Creuse in the Limousin region. The community is an association founded by the Romans spa.

Geography

The municipality borders the departments of Allier and Puy -de- Dôme. Évaux -les- Bains is located 20 kilometers southwest of Montlucon.

History

The Roman legions of Caesar were the first who used the thermal springs around the year 50 BC. After a rain use of sources in the ancient thermal baths were destroyed by the Great Migration. Only in the 19th century, it came back to a comparable use. In the Middle Ages arose in Évaux the Abbey Church of Saint Pierre et Paul. 1831 a society was founded in the thermal baths. At about the same time Évaux was connected to the railway. These developments led to a flowering of the thermal baths in this era. In the 20th century there was a steady modernization of the thermal baths. 2001, the major station thermal du Limousin has been completely renewed.
