Evil ( Original title: Ondskan ) is a Swedish film from 2003, based on the autobiographical novel Evil - based Evil (1981 ) by Jan Guillou. Directed by Mikael Håfström.
Action
The 16 -year-old Erik Ponti borrows at school together with his gang, other students money at usurious rates. There threaten beatings if not repaid on time. At home, he lives with his mother and stepfather, who regularly beat him with a cane.
When Erik and his gang while being caught stealing records from a shop, Erik gets attributed all the blame due to lack of loyalty. But he has the opportunity to enroll in the private school Stjärnsberg. There, he gets another chance to continue his education. Erik decides to take advantage of this and quit his previous violent life.
In Stjärnsberg Erik has to deal with new types of violence; by members of the upper class and the upperclassmen instead of teachers. In school, a system called " kamratuppfostran " to German " camaraderie education" exists. This is a euphemism for a violent type of bullying particularly at unmatched students to maintain discipline and order in the school. Erik, who does not want to accept injustice, soon becomes the main goal.
Erik defends herself against the school board of directors, by refusing the humiliation which, like any other, threatened by the students of the older vintages, and this weekend takes him arrest and detention in coming. This provokes the elderly over time so that they harass him with ever larger proportions, eventually even torture him almost to death. His best friend Pierre, the son of a diplomat wants to do the same Erik, but this no longer holds out after some time and going from school.
To the rescue comes the Finn Erik Marja, who is employed in Stjärnsberg as a kitchen and with whom he enters into a clandestine love affair. Marja is dismissed as rumors her relationship with Erik louder.
The returned to Finland Marja Erik writes a letter with a declaration of love, is taken away by older students and is the occasion for his expulsion from Stjärnsberg. Erik does not accept this and ask a lawyer friend for help, which threatens the Director of Stjärnsberg with legal consequences and a notice of the conditions of the school in the press.
Erik can stay in school and get his degree. In the end he briefly visited his friend Pierre, which he announces that he will work in the summer at a law firm.

Awards (selection)
Evil was named in 2004 as " Best Foreign Language Film " Oscar, but had opposite Denys Arcand The Barbarian Invasions in the cold.
