Ewa Laurance

Ewa Laurance ( born Ewa Svensson; meantime also Ewa Mataya Laurance or Ewa Mataya; born November 10, 1969 in Gävle) is a Swedish snooker player. In addition, she is the author of three books on the billiard sport.

Life

Laurance began at age 14 in her hometown of Gävle with the billiard games. A year later, they won the national championship in the 9- ball. Two years later, at the age of 17, she won the Pool Championship 1981 in Berne the title in 14 and 1 endless. A short time later they moved to the United States after New York City and married there in 1982 the Pool player Jimmy Mataya. In line with its Swedish roots, she also has the nickname Striking Viking.

In the years 1988 and 1991 she won the title in the U.S. Open 9- ball. In 1992, she graced the first and so far only snooker player the front page of the New York Times Magazine. During this time, their long -standing cooperation with the pool table manufacturer Brunswick began.

After her first marriage ended in divorce, she married in 1994 the sports presenter Mitch Laurence. In the same year she won in Chicago WPA 9-Ball World Championship for Women.

In 2004 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Billiard Congress of America. Followed in 2005 by a title at the Women's Trick Shot Challenge in Las Vegas. In 2008, she played during halftime of an NBA basketball game, the Cleveland Cavaliers a show event.

In January 2012, she won the WPBA Masters Championship another major title.
