Fabian Gottlieb von Osten-Sacken

Fabian Gottlieb von der Osten -Sacken Prince (Russian Фабиан Вильгельмович Остен - Сакен; * 20 Oktoberjul / October 31 1752greg in Reval, .. .. † 7 Apriljul / April 19 1837greg in Kiev ) was a Field Marshal of the Russian army Baltic German descent and Freemasons.

Life

Fabian von der Osten -Sacken came from a resident in Estonia and Livonia noble family of the von der Osten- Sacken. He was the son of the Russian captain Wilhelm Ferdinand von der Osten -Sacken († 1754) and Hedwig Eleonora of Udam († 1778). Osten-Sacken took part in the wars against Poland and against the Ottoman Empire and some came already Lieutenant General, 1799 in the First Battle of Zurich in French captivity. He returned in 1801 returned to Russia and then distinguished himself at Pultusk (1806 ) and Prussian Eylau (1807 ) from, fought at the Battle of the Katzbach under Blucher and was appointed at the Battle of Leipzig, general of the infantry.

He then took part in the victories over Napoleon Bonaparte at the battles of Brienne and La Rothière part (1814 ). At Montmirail he was defeated. After the capture of Paris, he was Governor-General of this city. 1826 Osten-Sacken was appointed field marshal and suppressed the Polish uprising in 1831 in Volhynia and Podolia.

1821 Osten-Sacken was elevated to the Russian count and 1832 in the rank of prince.

Fabian Gottlieb von der Osten -Sacken Prince died on April 19, 1837 in Kiev. He was awarded the Russian Order of Saint Andrew, the Prussian Black Eagle and the Austrian Maria Theresa Order.

In Mannheim ( Friesenheimer road ) is a memorial to the local Rhine crossing of the Russian corps of the Osten-Sacken, on 1 January 1814.
