Fabras

Fabras is a commune of 390 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to Canton Thueyts and the Local Government Association, Source de l' Ardèche.

Geography

Fabras lies in a narrow valley at the headwaters of the Ardèche Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche in the Massif Central, 88 km south of Saint- Étienne, 38 kilometers north- west of Montelimar and about 12 kilometers north of Largentière, the capital of the eponymous arrondissement. Neighboring communities of Fabras are Pont -de- Labeaume the northwest, Vals- les- Bains in the north- east, in the southeast of Prades and Jaujac in the southwest. The municipality covers an area of ​​752 hectares, the average altitude is 443 meters above sea level. The Lignon runs along the eastern boundary of the municipality, and there are numerous streams in the municipality.

Attractions

The gardens of the Château du Pin is from the French Ministry of Culture "remarkable" winning as Jardins remarquables. The gardens are decorated with works of the sculptor Martine Dierse and open to the public since 2002.

The building was built as a stronghold for the family de Chanaleilles in the 12th century and rebuilt in 1591. The family lived there until the 18th century.
