Fair Play AVA

Fair Play AVA ( recognized since 26 February 2001) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located near the city of Sacramento, however, in the administrative area of ​​El Dorado County. The wine-growing area is completely enclosed by the El Dorado AVA and Sierra Foothills AVA. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 600 m to 900 m above sea level. NN. This Fair Play is the highest average wine-growing region of California. Most important grape is the Zinfandel, however, the proportion of Southern French and Italian vines growing steadily.

Climate

As the area is located 120 kilometers from the coast of the Pacific, it is often very hot in midsummer. The low humidity and the wind, the cool air of the San Francisco Bay zoom into the night, stay, however, make bearable and a viticulture possible at this altitude. There is a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and warm dry mostly summer.
