Falwel

Region

Falwel is a rural municipality in the department of Loga in Niger.

Geography

Falwel is located at the junction of the Sahel to large landscape Sudan. The municipality is divided into 52 administrative villages, 60 traditional villages, a hamlet, 29 bearings and two water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Falwel. The neighboring municipalities are Falwels Loga in the northwest, Dogondoutchi in the east, Tombokoirey II to the southeast, Tombokoirey I in the south and mokko in the southwest.

History

The old village Falwel was occupied in 1893 by a Zarma from Tondikandia called bark Mayaki. Bark Mayaki built in Falwel own territory and took the title of ruler gabdakoy. He died in 1915.

The rural community Falwel went out in 2002 at a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Falwel, with parts of the canton of the rural communities newly created Tombokoirey I and II Tombokoirey were slammed.

Population

At the 2001 census Falwel had 41 486 inhabitants. For the year 2010 55.559 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture. Of economic importance is also the labor migration abroad. By Falwel the National Road 23, which connects the city to its neighboring cities Dogondoutchi and Loga runs.
