Fatick

Fatick is a city in the west of Senegal, located between Mbour and Kaolack.

History

In the city there are several official historic monuments.

These are the following Mind Ngo Mindiss, the place of libations and offerings, situated on the banks of the River Sine; Ndiobaye, the place of the traditional ceremonies; Jab Ndeb, the sacred tree of Ndiaye - Ndiaye; the three listed building Lutheran Home, Prefecture and judgment.

In Fatick contains both the Prefecture for the Fatick region, as well as for the department Fatick.

Geography

Location

The three nearest villages are Nerane, Pourham, Mbirk and Pourham Tok. After Dakar, capital of Senegal, there are 155 kilometers.

Population

In 1988 the city had 18,416 inhabitants Fatick, 2002, there were 23,149, and after the last official estimate from 2007, the city had 24,855 inhabitants.

Economy

Previously Fatick lived mainly from the peanut production. For several years, this is on the descending branch, whether by crop failures, either by importing EU obstacles, or be it by the complete privatization of the peanut industry in Senegal. In particular, the privatization has led to major problems, as the government now pays no more subsidies. Therefore, the salt marshes are the most important local Wirtschaftzszweig today.
