Federal- Mogul Corporation is a global supplier of components, modules and systems for the automotive industry and ships ( both OEM and aftermarket ).

The company is headquartered in Southfield, Michigan ( near Detroit ). Federal- Mogul employs approximately 45,100 employees in 25 countries.

The company has in terms of sales in the automotive supply industry worldwide 27th rank.

History

The company was formed in 1923 from the merger of Muzzy -Lyon, Federal Bearing and Bushing and Douglas Dahlin.

1955 merged with Federal-Mogul Bower Roller Bearing.

1985 you bought the automotive Mather.

1990 Glyco metal, the largest plain bearings manufacturer in Germany was acquired.

1998 saw the purchase of Cooper Industries whose automotive sector. In the same year we sold the subsidiary Glacier Vandervell Bearings Business to the Dana Corporation.

1999 provided you with TRW Inc., a bidding war for the automotive LucasVarity in which you were outbid by TRW.

2001, the company had to file for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11.

Subsidiaries in Germany

In Germany after takeovers in the 1990s ( piston rings, mechanical face seals, cylinder liners ) and Herdorf include Goetze Group in Burscheid, Dresden, Friedberg / Bavaria (cylinder head gaskets and heat shields ), the glyco metal works in Wiesbaden ( plain bearings and bushings), Federal Mogul Deva GmbH ( maintenance-free high - friction bearing ) in Stadtallendorf / Hessen and Alcan / Nüral (piston) in Nuremberg, Federal- Mogul.

Today's Federal- Mogul Nürnberg GmbH in Nürnberg ( founded in 1924 as Nüral, later Alcan ) produced with approximately 1,000 employees pistons for vehicle manufacturers such as VW, MAN Commercial Vehicles, Daimler AG or BMW.
