Federation Island

The island Federazija (literally " Federation"; Russian Остров Федерация, Ostrow Federazija, English Federation Iceland ) is a planned artificial archipelago in the shape of Russia off the coast of the Black Sea near Sochi in Russia. It is 150 meters off the coast in front of the Maly Akhun Mountains and 15 kilometers from the city center of Sochi.

The island group is 330 acres in size, 2.5 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide. It will be created seven major and twenty small, private islands of 20 hectares. Outside are three narrow islands as a breakwater. There are artificial water channels that follow the course of the rivers of Russia. The mountains of Russia are indicated to scale.

There are provided apartments, hotels, cultural and recreational facilities and recreational opportunities. For leisure and recreation two million square meters are planned. This includes offices, sanitariums, an aqua park, a marina and 15 kilometers of sandy beach. There are 25,000 people can live there.

The traffic is routed underground. Two tunnels and a pedestrian bridge connecting the archipelago with the mainland.

The archipelago was designed by the Dutch Erick van Egeraat. The project, which is estimated at the equivalent of 6.2 billion U.S. dollars, was announced at the international investor fair in Sochi and confirmed by President Vladimir Putin. The project is being developed by M- ​​Industries of St. Petersburg in cooperation with the Dutch engineering companies Witteveen & Bos and Van Oord.
